USPS Ground Advantage vs Priority Mail for sellers
Ground Advantage is the cheaper USPS service and the slower one. Priority Mail buys a 2-3 day window instead of 2-5 days, and in the table below it costs $1.35 to $10.85 more.

USPS Ground Advantage is the cheaper, slower USPS service for packages up to 70 pounds. As of September 2026, USPS says Ground Advantage delivers in 2-5 days and Priority Mail in 2-3 days, and neither time is guaranteed. The 1-3 day window belongs to Priority Mail Express, not Priority Mail.

Source: USPS Notice 123, effective July 12, 2026, checked September 23, 2026. Retail is the post office counter price. Commercial is USPS's published price for label platforms. eBay Labels uses rates eBay negotiated with the carriers, which eBay says average 33% off retail rates across carriers, based on an internal comparison as of March 2024. The weight prices for 1 to 70 pounds in zones 1 to 8, retail and commercial, are lower for Ground Advantage than for Priority Mail in every cell of the July 12, 2026 price files.
Two price windows matter. The current prices already include a temporary 8% increase that started April 26, 2026. On top of that, USPS runs holiday prices from October 4, 2026 to January 17, 2027. Example: Ground Advantage commercial, 1 lb, Zone 1 goes from $7.61 to $8.01 in that window.
Where do Ground Advantage and Priority Mail differ?
Ground Advantage and Priority Mail differ on speed, size limit, long-box fees and free packaging. They share the same 70-pound limit, the same 139 divisor over 1 cubic foot, and the same included tracking and $100 of insurance. Ground Advantage also takes boxes up to 130 inches of length plus girth, where Priority Mail stops at 108.

When is Priority Mail worth it?
Priority Mail is worth it when speed matters to the buyer or your listing promised it. Its window is 2-3 days against 2-5. Its size limit is tighter, 108 inches of length plus girth against 130, and its fees for long or bulky boxes are higher. Both services include USPS Tracking and up to $100 of insurance, which is what you claim on when a package is lost or arrives damaged.
Free Priority Mail boxes only work for Priority Mail. Put a Ground Advantage label on one and USPS charges the Priority Mail price, which is why Ground Advantage boxes come out of your own supplies. For small, heavy boxes, compare Ground Advantage Cubic, which prices by box size instead of weight, before paying for Priority.
When do UPS or FedEx beat USPS?
UPS and FedEx matter more as boxes get bigger and heavier. Both take packages up to 150 pounds and 165 inches of length plus girth, against USPS's 70 pounds. Both apply dimensional weight to boxes of any size on their standard rates.
Both UPS and FedEx add an Additional Handling charge past the same set lines: longest side over 48 inches, second-longest over 30 inches, length plus girth over 105 inches, more than 10,368 cubic inches, or over 50 pounds. A package that crosses a size line bills at 40 pounds or more.
eBay Labels sells UPS Ground, UPS Ground Saver, FedEx Ground, FedEx Home Delivery and FedEx Ground Economy, among others. We don't print UPS or FedEx prices here, because they depend on your account and the zone. Price your real box in eBay's shipping calculator. When can you use eBay's standard envelope?
eBay's standard envelope is eBay's low-cost label for flat, light items that sell for $20 or less, and eBay says it costs less than USPS First-Class Mail under 3 ounces. It covers eight categories: trading cards, coins and currency, stamps, postcards, greeting cards, patches, stickers and decals, and seeds. The envelope must weigh 3 ounces or less and stay under a quarter inch thick.
eBay's own pages disagree on the price. On October 2, 2026, eBay's Seller Center listed $0.78, $1.07 and $1.36 for 1, 2 and 3 ounces, and eBay's help page listed $0.82, $1.11 and $1.40. Go by the price when you buy the label. Tracking is limited and shows in the buyer's eBay account. For cards, the limits are 24 raw cards, 2 cards in top loaders and no graded cards per envelope, and the labels can't be canceled once printed.
How do you pick a service for your own packages?
Picking a USPS, UPS or FedEx service for your own packages comes down to pricing a short list of real packages side by side. Do it once, write down where the cheapest option changes, and redo it after each price change:
- List your five most common packagesReal weights and box sizes from last month's orders, not guesses.
- Price each one in eBay's shipping calculatorTo a near ZIP and a far one, for Ground Advantage, Priority Mail and one UPS or FedEx service.
- Write down where the cheapest option changesLook for the weight or box size where the order flips. Those two or three numbers are all you need to remember.
- Re-check after every price changeUSPS has changed prices three times in 2026 so far, on January 18, April 26 and July 12, with holiday prices from October 4.
